Movement in his binoculars catches Murph’s attention and draws him back from his thoughts. Can it be! Is that a fleet of ships on the horizon? What are they up to now? Is this an invasion?
We have been at each other these many years; will it end here on this desolate cold Island. The Russians have our number shooting down the U-2 and beating us in Space plus controlling Cuba.
Patch Two is here on the Island and we have chased him these many years. Murph thinks that he must be stopped one-way or another before he sabotages the site. There was a loud sound of waves beating against the cliff; a sound he once heard in the past and it draws him back to his remembrance.
The sound of the waves causes his mind to flash back to the day he awoke to the rocking of a ship. He had blurred vision and the first thing he recognized was an IV stand with tubes running down into his arm. His vision cleared and he realizes that he is in a hospital bed with a curtain surrounding his bed.
He tries to get-up but his head starts swimming so he calls out as loud as he could in Russian -- "Is any one there?" No response so he tries again.
The curtain parts and a small brunette in a Nurses uniform enters and says in English -- "Well Sergeant you have finally come back to us."
"Where am I?" He responds in Russian.
"Excuse me but I don’t understand Russian. Do you speak English?" She asks.
He just looks at her and his mind starts whirling with questions; should I speak in English or continue as Boris. He decides to say nothing and stares at her.
She frowns, turns, exits, and pulls the curtains back to shield the bed. A few minutes later the curtains part and in walks Hal.
"Welcome back Sergeant Falcone; you are looking much better than when you got here." Hal says in English.
No response from Boris; he just lies there and stares at Hal.
"OK Sergeant, the mission is over and you are back in friendly territory." Hal says irritated.
"Where am I?" Boris asks again.
Hal pulls the curtain back and gives Murph a view of the hospital ward; he sees the wounded being taken care of by Nurses and Corpsmen.
"Purple is cool." Murph says.
"But dull." Hal answers.
"How long have I been out?" Murph asks finally satisfied that he is in friendly hands.
"Two and a half weeks." Hal answers and continues -- "You lost a lot of blood before Dima and Aleksei contacted the Perch and all of you were rescued. Your shoulder wound is almost identical with the one you received in Korea. You were lucky with the head wound it must have been a ricochet. You will be fine in a few months. I need to ask you some questions before I answer any more to insure the information Aleksei told us was the same he told you."
"OK, that is if I can remember my head is still messed up and I’ll tell you what I remember.
"Tell me what you remember from the time you opened Aleksei’s cell until you blacked out." Hal says.
Murph tells the story as he remembers it; giving all the information that Aleksei had told him. He finishes with a question -- "How about Ivan and Lur? Did they survive?"
"Ivan and Boris died before they reached the Perch. They left Lur in the harbor where she fell in; we do not know if the Russians rescued her." Hal answers.
"I am or Boris is dead?" Murph answers shocked.
"Yes we had a burial at sea for Ivan and Boris the Russians have conveniently found that out by now." Hal continues.
