A young couple, engrossed in conversation, crested the top of the incline. As the two people took a breath to continue their friendly discussion, the woman took in the scenery. She inhaled sharply as her hand flew to her mouth. The man looked away from her over to where she was staring. “I don’t like this,” the woman told her husband laying her hand on his shoulder. He shrugged her hand away and moved to have a closer look. “There must have been a struggle here with all this mess.” His wife nervously looked around. “I wonder where the people are?” “We had better get the police,” he remarked and stood from where he had been studying the ground. The couple rushed back down the path they had come up, only this time, to go back to town. FinFin turned and leaned against some rocks. Soon the police and other people would cover this area. FinFin’s head shot up. He suddenly remembered what his father told him last summer, “If something ever happens to your mom and me, you need to hide along with your sister. Go to the old mine. Use the skills I am going to teach you this summer; they will help keep both of you alive. Trust no one, not even the police.” FinFin sprang up from his spot and went over to his sister. “Hey, we can’t stay here,” he told her. “Are we going to go home and see if they are there?” she questioned staring towards the trail. “No,” he answered. “But that’s the direction we were going before that couple showed up,” LuLu snapped and hugged Mom’s sweater tightly. “I don’t have time to explain it right now, but we need to get away from here. We need to avoid people,” FinFin yanked her to her feet. “Where will we go?” she asked. “I have a place in mind, but we have to leave now. It’ll take a long time to get there,” and her brother started moving away from the direction of town. She walked towards the open field and observed FinFin wiping his eyes with the hem of his sleeve, then, looked away. She had never seen her brother like this. FinFin never cried. LuLu shot a glance over at where Mom and Dad were last seen and followed FinFin. Her chin sank towards her chest; tears rolled down her face landing on her light blue and green flowered shirt. Somehow, this all felt familiar, but she couldn’t quite figure out why. LuLu had the feeling things were about to change for both of them.

About the Book
Uncle Malaki is hunting for his niece, LuLu, after killing her parents when she was three years old. He needs her to become king of Starlite Island. Uncle Malaki’s men have been searching the nearby towns and the forest where FinFin and LuLu are hiding. The men are getting close. Staying one step ahead of them becomes harder now that one of them can “sense” LuLu. Will FinFin be able to keep LuLu hidden until she can return home, or will Uncle Malaki get his revenge?
About the Author
I was born in Worcester, Mass, but lived my childhood in New Hampshire. Life’s events took me to Iowa where I have lived for the past twenty-two years. I am a Medical Transcriptionist working for cardiovascular physicians. I type reports to go on patient’s charts. I love my job and coworkers. I have two cats, Olive and Salli, who keep me laughing at their antics. My seven grandchildren keep me pretty busy. My oldest grandson, Tristen, helped write this story. He likes wrestling and cross-country running. He lives on a farm with his dad, mom, and little brother. Tristen has a bearded dragon called “Rocky” who is pretty cool. Emily Wilford is Tristen’s friend who created the cover for me. I told her what I was thinking, and she drew what I had envisioned in my mind. Emily likes to draw and is always trying to better herself by practicing as much as she can. She comes from a large family with three brothers and two sisters who, as a family, enjoy working out with Tai Kwon Do.
