"Please don't go," her friends begged, but Ori wouldn't listen. Ori packed a sack full of water, a picture of her two best friends, the golden medallion her grandpa had given her, and her last banana. By the time the sun set, she had made it all the way to the mouth of the Jamboa Jungle. She stood there, nervous and thinking about whether or not she still had enough courage to go through with her journey. Then, as she looked into the mouth, she saw a light twinkle before her. She looked closer, without stepping in. Clear before her eyes stood the wishing well. Made of baked red bricks and throwing stones, its bucket was golden and the top of the well peaked with a diamond. She had made it this far, and suddenly the sight of the well had given her the strength to finish.
She counted to herself, "one, two..." with a deep breath she yelled and ran at the same time "threeeeeeeeee!" As she ran, the well seemed to get further and further away. It was almost never-ending as if each second of time took a minute to pass by. When she finally reached the well, she was panting for air, but she managed to yell down the well, "I wish for one million bananas!" Then she turned around five times, jumped once, scratched her head, and roared to the sky, just as the legend said to do. Turning around, she couldn't remember which way she had come into the jungle so she just ran into any clear path.
Within a flash, the trees started to hover over her with their branches reaching out for her like arms. The ground became soft and bouncy. Ori was bouncing all over the place, into tree limbs and puddles. Up and down she went. She tried grabbing for vines, but each one she grabbed turned into hissing snakes. The spider webs began to flap and made whipping noises like lashes. Scorpions poked out of every nook and cranny. Ori kept running. Almost out of breath, her sack started to slip from her shoulder. She looked back and noticed her grandpa's medallion about to fall. In one motion, she gripped it with her foot. It was so shiny, that its glare made a tree jerk back. Then the scorpions dashed back into their holes. Ori pointed the medallion at anything coming at her and watched as it repelled all things of danger. Finally, she reached the mouth of the Jungle and made it out.
She jumped and celebrated over her victory. All by herself, she screamed in victory, “I made it! I made it!” She had defeated the spookiest jungle ever. The night's clouds cleared from the sky. Twinkling stars winked at her. Dewdrops glistened on flower petals. There was beauty everywhere she looked. Finally, Ori made it to the Future Fate Pond, where she would find out if her wish had been granted, now that she had made it out of the Jamboa Jungle. Kneeling down on her knees she peered down into the pond, closed her eyes and whispered, "Lords of the Future Fate Pond, I wished for one million bananas. Has my wish been granted?" For a moment only silence blew over the pond, then suddenly, her answer. "Scorpions, lizards, and land. You have escaped but your wish was too grand. Keep in mind that luck is blind. One day you will see. Work hard, as nothing worth having is free." Ori was saddened, but didn't give up hope.
