A serial rapist was on the loose. It was a well known attorney, Charles Sutton, although no one knew it at the time. His method of operation in every case was the same. There was a residential break-in. The victim was chloroformed, disrobed, if not already nude, and beaten. And then sexually assaulted via genital intercourse. AIDS was hand printed on her buttocks and a typed passage from a horror story was left by her side.
There were differences, however. Differences in the victims themselves. While each woman was a blond, their ages varied. They were getting older with each attack, in seven year increments. Jessica Jamison was nineteen. The next victim, Marlene Herrera, twenty-six. And then there was Kim Sera, thirty-three, followed by forty year old Cindy Marltana. And finally, just three days earlier, the forty-seven year old, Shirley Windsor, fell prey to an assault.
Every light haired fifty-four year old woman in the state was nervous, strangled in the fear of unknowing. There was no way to know who the rapist would strike out against next. Ethnicity was not a factor. Nor religion or social class. Education had meant nothing, as well as occupation. The rapist=s randomness stymied law enforcement=s efforts to apprehend the offender. With no physical evidence or eyewitness accounts, the lack of similar victim background made their investigation increasingly difficult. But there was one connection among the women which law enforcement did not know.

Through a postwar career change to law, however, Adam meets his destiny head-on when he chooses to represent a disbarred attorney charged as a serial rapist. He is faced with disappointment from his fiancee, Laura; oppposition from his uncle/mentor, Bishop John McFarlane; and shock from rape victim and political ally, Susan Sezman. Moreover, as the case unfolds, he is faced with the fate of the world.
