About the Book

For years, Raymond CH32 had served in the Turspa System Guard, defending the Turspa Alliance against all manner of threats: alien invaders; pirates; and the ever-present danger of the Corporation---an empire which dominated almost all of human-occupied space, through its monopoly of Faster-Than-Light spacecraft. Still, nothing could prepare Raymond, or the Alliance, for the terror of the Sleepers.

From out of deep space, the Sleeper’s giant starship struck without warning, attacking the Alliance’s outer planets, and kidnapping unwary spacers. Captain Raymond and a company of the System Guard are sent to confront this new threat, and soon find themselves facing their greatest challenge yet: beings who can enter one’s mind and attack with the most horrible nightmare, or seduce a person by tapping their innermost desires.

Also on the mission is Daniel Shimada, a man who may hold the key to the Sleepers’ mysterious origins, and who finds himself sorely tempted by the invaders powers of illusion. Now, within the bowels of an ancient starship, a battle is about to begin. A battle between good and evil; between freedom and slavery; between reality and fantasy!

About the Author

I was born in 1966, and grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Despite the fact that I was born with Muscular Dystrophy, and have never walked, I still had a reasonably normal childhood, thanks to the love and support of my family. I’ve also been ventilator-dependent since the age of seven. Because of my condition, reading has always been my favorite hobby, especially science fiction. This was okay until high school, when being branded a "science fiction nerd" was worse than being handicapped!

After graduating high school with high honors in 1984, I planned to become a U.S. Navy SEAL, but discovered that my wheelchair might interfere with locking out from a submarine, so I instead decided to gamble on full-time writing. To date, my only other success has been Old Soldiers, a mystery published in 1989.

When not writing, I enjoy reading; collecting science fiction memorabilia; classical music; punk rock; movies; computer games; arguing politics and, whenever possible, attending science fiction conventions. I still live in Wisconsin. Oh yeah! One more thing: now I’m proud to be a nerd!
