I stand alone now, reflections of my life with you breathe through my soul.
From my very first steps until now, I remember your gentleness, warmth, unselfish humble ways, your guidance has made me the man I am today.
Just as a river flows, emotions for you always run deep.
Only secrets the ocean holds, are the reasons we miss you even in our deepest sleep.
Visions of you enlighten my mind.
You have always been the light, my candle in the darkness, the everlasting flame.
Breathe, protect me from these four walls of life, keep your dreams alive through me.
Since you have passed so unexpectedly, you are still in spirit truly alive.
Your caring touch, charismatic ways, liberated, now a free spirit, in peace always missed deeply so very much.
Watch over me like the eyes of your picture, for life, as you have said, is a difficult adventure.
Shine your heavenly light, let it glow like a sunset over peaceful waters.
Guide me towards with divine direction, just as a boy needs his father.
You are my guardian, my angel, my temple's protection.
As your legacy, I will always seek your direction.
At a distance stands a light, shadows, your image.
Warm eyes in passing, I sense a warmth, your spirit prevails.
I long to reach for you, embrace you once more.
In peace, I will find you one day my angel at heaven's door.

About the Book
The freedom of inner reflections is a theme which weaves its way through most of the writings in this publication titled Scriptures of Life: A Collection of Poems. The thoughts, beliefs and conviction expressed in these works represent an accumulation of life experience and personal journeys. It is my hope that these poems strike a cord with readers, harkening to your personal journeys and those special moments that have enriched your life.
At times spiritual, fanciful or visual, my writings provide you with an opportunity to bring your own imagination to life and to reflect on the people, places and events that matter most to you. In a world which recognizes superficial indicators of success and wealth, the richness of inner strength and spirit is often overlooked. It is the people we love, and the beliefs and dreams that carry us through everyday life, which speak to our success as individuals. Please join me in my journey of reminiscence, and hopefully in the process recapture some special places of your own along the way.
About the Author
Maxime Alix Gilles embarked on an exploration of his artistic dimensions following the completion of his residency in Emergency Medicine three years ago. As an individual confronted with life and death choices on a daily basis, in some of the most extreme forms, Maxime's poetry resonates with an appreciation for the importance of love and those we love.
In 1998, the unexpected death of his father had a profound impact on Maxime. The serendipitous discovery of his father's writings among his personal effects is testament to a shared affinity for a creative outlet through writing. The discovery has at once provided Maxime with a venue to mourn, reminisce and heal from a loss that did not allow for proper goodbyes.
Of Haitian parents, Maxime was born in New York City and spent his formative years in Montreal, Quebec. He is currently a practicing physician in Chicago.
Through his works and the poignancy of its messages, you will identify with his deepest thoughts and feelings, which like many of us, he rarely exteriorizes.
