Delicious Delight
Delight phene I am of yours
You’re so sweet
I get a toothache
Just by looking at you
You luscious Suzy-Q (Dog)
You are all caramel with a swirl of vanilla
My thrilla manilla
Swiss almond joy mocha
The apple of my eye
The pecan in my pie
Hershey’s symphony
You are to me
That tastes so sweet
A banana split that just won’t quit
Who like his cram not stirred but whipped
And a cherry not on the bottom but on the top
That just won’t stop
You’re the banana in my pudding
With vanilla wafers
So creamy and delightful
You make me consume it in one spoonful
You’re like lemon meringue
Such a sweet thang
Are your lips when pressed against mine
It’s only so much I can take
When I know I can tear up an Eli’s Cheesecake
The chocolate chunk of hunk you are
Makes me melt like pralines ice cream within
And hot! Like blueberry muffins
You’re a chocolate chip off the block
I wish not to leave
My chocolate dream
My attack of the brownie fantasy
My dessert
Day and night
You’re my Delicious Delight

About the Book
The underlying meaning of the book entitled, Diamonds In The Rough describes situations of young urban life; mentally and physically that seldom goes unheard of. There are twenty-four poems in all that vividly shine once they’re read. The poetry is a representation to that of a twenty-four carat diamond. About the Author
Marilyn M. Burgess was raised on the south side of Chicago in Illinois where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Illinois. She co-facilitated a G.E.D. program for ex-offenders and later counseled children with a spectrum of underlying issues. An inspired writer of many talents, Marilyn M. Burgess birthed the art of writing in the early eighties as a hobby and later utilized her writing talent actively in the early nineties. In 1997, she was a qualified candidate to enroll in the Long Ridge Writers Group. Her poems have been in contests through the National Library of Poetry. Throughout the years of writing, her poetry and essays derived from music arrangements. Several poems such as "Black Sensuous Man," "Sister, Sister," "Be Encouraged," and "Delicious Delight" have been orally performed to receiving standing ovations.
