About the Book

Our Paradise was written as a living memorial to Deitrich's father, Carl. It was a birthday gift to his father in 1992 that has now been turned into this book. Deitrich's earliest memories are of fishing with his father. Many of the lessons he learned came directly from experiences he had while trout fishing. Most of the stories are ones we have all learned or attempted to learn and will touch a chord with many readers. Yet not every experience is common or often expressed. "Love doesn't need to be spoken," Deitrich writes to close one chapter-a lesson with which many people never come to grips. The joys, sorrows, elation and depression of youth are captured in the interplay between a young Deitrich and his father, as well as his mother, grandparents, and close friend.

The book is not only a fond set of lessons for children, but also for parents-especially fathers. Each story provides a reminder or a new take on family relationships and how to expand those reminders and make them a part of one's life, so that the lessons and the person become one. Indeed, at Our Paradise, we learn to be a good person.
