Oh God! I cry out! I want my life back!! I want my body back!! I want to LIVE again!! I'm screaming, but no one can hear me. My lips won't move I try to make them move, but I can't get my mouth open. If I could just get my mouth open, somebody could hear me talk. If I could just talk to somebody, I could feel more like a real person! I have a mind, I can think. Surely, I can't be dead! Oh God, I must be in Hell, I must be!... but why would I be in Hell, I ask myself? I know the Lord... I believe in the Bible! So... how could I be in Hell? I don't feel hot! I don't smell anything burning! GOD! I scream! How did I get myself into this mess! Silence came over me for a moment... then I thought back to what seemed like an eternity... the accident. Well, if this isn't Hell, it's the closest thing to it.
Oh God! I hate him! I hate him! I hate the person who did this to me, I scream out to God in pain. I want my life back! I cry out in silence, knowing no one can hear me but God. I stop to gather my thoughts, to catch my breath... I'm so sorry God... I'm so sorry, I don't want to hate anyone, but I can't help it. Please, I beg of you, show me, show me, I'll do anything, anything you ask of me! Then a deep silence came over me as I came to my senses. I'm pleading to God, as if I was a normal person. I'm trapped in a body that doesn't move, suspended in time, where I only have my thoughts to keep me company, my sense of humor to retain my sanity, and God to talk to, to give me some sense of comfort. Is this my lot in life?
Chapter 2
I hear voices in the background—footsteps, maybe it's my
children! I haven't heard their voices for a long time. I can't
remember how long it's been though. I have no sense of time.
It's like floating in outerspace. I can think. I can hear. I can
smell. I can feel when someone touches me, but I can only
respond with a tear. When will it ever end?

Lynne Colmer, mother of five and grandmother of four, was born in
Jonathan’s
Angel, is Jennie’s first novel. Her idea
was to write a fictional only romantic comedy, but as she began putting her
idea into words, the story took on a life of its own. The fictional part of the story revolves
around non-fictional true life events that was sometimes difficult to write
about, but turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
