Nicole's car paused at a red light, the engine humming softly. The front doors of a club faced him, it's silver facade reflecting the neon web that hung over it. Partygoers filtered in and out, milling with those that waited. A man, in burgundy silks, and red suede, with messy crimson hair caught his attention. Dem-Seph stared, noticing suddenly the strangeness of his movements, and then the recognizable rectangular bulge against his breast. Seph's filaments were itching, a terrible anxiousness filling him at the sight of the man. His face was turned, and Seph couldn't be sure.
As the car pulled away from the corner, the man turned his head and stared in Seph's direction, catching him exactly in the eye. Seph's heart froze at the sight of him. Quade smiled, pulling open his jacket to flash a glimpse of the gray rectangular housing of the bomb.
"Stop."
"What?" Nicole said, glancing sideways at him.
"Stop the car." Seph snapped.
"Stop!"
The passenger door flung open and Seph rolled out into the curb as the car squealed to a halt behind him. He shot up to his feet, lunging off toward the club. He felt Quade's presence in the air, a pricking that stung his wounded arm. A fury of red struck Dem-Seph, catching him at the shoulders and knocking him into the road.
Car's screamed to stop just inches from him, horns blasting. Nicole appeared suddenly, racing onto the street to pull him up by the arm. He fought her to stand on the sidewalk, searching for the man in red, his eyes blazing neon blue.
"You can't just run out into traffic, you could have been killed!"
"He was here!" Seph cried. "He had the bomb."

About the Book
The clock is ticking for Dem-Seph. This young watcher must turn hunter. A prediction by one of his kind sends him through the dimensions to Earth on a mission. In three days a bomb will explode in a crowded city centre on New Year's Eve. He must find it and its maker before it can unleash the plague that will mean the end of mankind.
He stumbles blindly and alone into a world he has never seen to find a man he only knows by name—a man more sinister than he imagines. He knows he cannot do this alone. He will have to break the cardinal rules of his kind—never interfere, never be seen—and find his salvation in the arms of a woman named Nicole.
Stop the bomb, or watch her die. There is no going back.

Jennifer M. Small began writing and telling stories at the age of four. As well as novels, her imagination and creativity demand of her the further outlets of poetry and painting. She lives in Leamington, Ontario. This is her first published novel, with many more to come.
