And It Is So...
What makes you so lovely
Asked the aster of the rose?
Is it the fragrance that you lend?
Is it your fond repose?
Or is it gay colors that
attract
So many fans for you?
And yet your thorns, they might distract
Lest fingers hurt from you.

Life is a candle
Snuffed any
moment.
We, who warm
by its glow,
Remember.
Invader
we,
we sit waiting,
5 of us.
sedate. related.
the news will come.
the phone rings without ceasing our prayer.
releasing,
the young doctor-teacher
relegates:
“CANCER.”
now deflated,
throw strings of hope,
flung like kites.
I hang a dream-catcher,
almost empty;
beg Jesus one more time:
“What’s that?”

About the Author
Marion Hanson Sadler was born in the Shoshone-
Piute Indian Hospital, where her mother was a Registered Nurse, and her
father was the Missionary-Minister to the Duck Valley Indian Reserve
Presbyterian Church in Nevada. Retired from 28 years of teaching art, music,
writing and learning disabilities, she has been writing creatively, painting
and teaching literacy and piano.
She and her retired husband enjoy their six grandchildren, their son and his boat on Lake Texhoma, and visiting their two daughters, both who have busy medical careers.
Marion is thankful for close family togetherness. Each has helped each
other through the unpredictable processes of grief.
