MY POEM
They were my angel friends
Who gave to me the poem.
I only tuned into
That great majestic throng.
I listened to the song
With quiet open mind
As there I heard the tune
Of hope for all mankind.
The verses that they sang
Were of our Father’s love,
The answer for us all
From heaven up above.
And so I penned the poem
The very best I could
And hoped it would be read
And truly understood.
THE PUMPKIN
‘Twas just beyond the rolling hill
Where corn grows row on row
There was a quiet open field
Where gourds and pumpkins grow.
So many feet of large and small
Had trampled on the vines.
They picked the pumpkins one by one
Of many shapes and kinds.
But near the wood where weeds were tall,
Upon the cool rich ground
There lay so perfect and secure
A pumpkin no one found.
As all the others went their ways,
He lay with patience long.
And there in solitude he learned
To sing his pumpkin song.
“I love to drink the falling rain,
I smile with sun above.
I breathe and thank the whisp’ring wind
That blows o’er me in love.
I thrill to gaze towards the heav’n
And watch the clouds go by
And see the planets, moon and stars
Up in the night time sky.
Though all my friends may smile and frown
As folks would have them be,
I live a happy pumpkin life
For I am truly me.”
