About the Book

FEED MY SHEEP is the story of boy and his grandfather. The boy, going on 13, watched his grandfather slice away the skin from a stillborn lamb. The grandfather told the boy to throw the dead lamb into a hollow. It was hard to take the cold, skinned carcass in his hands, but it was a normal thing to do in that time and place. The grandfather took the skin to tie on another lamb, and try to save it. He cared for all his sheep, and saved every lamb he could. The boy needed to learn how to tend the sheep. That's what mattered.

- The time was soon after World War II in1947.
- The place was their hill farm in north central Kentucky.
- The story is about two lives, about a boy learning how to become a man.
- It's about growth and struggle, about love and caring for all life around them.
- It's about nature and the immersion with all those natural forces that shape, form and nourish in such a compelling way.
- It's about the wind, the sky, the sun the animals, and the forces from the earth that sustain them.

About the Author

Terry Cummins ran his first marathon at age 63, technically climbed his first mountain at age 64 and wrote his first book at age 68. Better late than never works for him. He left the farm at age 18 to go to college, and never returned to live there as was intended. The farm never left him. FEED MY SHEEP is his way of going back to that vibrant life during his 13th year in 1947. After college, the military and 34 years in public education primarily as a secondary school administrator, he retired and lives in New Albany, Indiana. In addition to writing a weekly newspaper commentary on various topics, other marathons, mountains and books are in his future plans.
