Health is the general
condition of the body or mind, with reference to soundness and vigor, freedom
from disease or ailment. In Genesis we see that God created man from the dust
of the ground, and breathed into man the breath of life, and man became a living
being. God looked at what He had made and saw that it was good. In fact, God's
original creation of man was to live forever. God made us in His image but with
physical form and spiritual beings. Since God made us from the dust of the
ground, there is a physical connection between man and the ground. Being made
from the ground, your body needs elements that come from the ground.
God, after he made man and
woman, He placed them where? In the garden. The garden
is the fruit of the ground. Then God said, "See, I have given you every
herb that yields seed." The herbs have all the healing properties to keep
our bodies healthy. God also said, "I give you every tree whose fruit
yields seed, to you it shall be for food." God gives us nutrition. The source of food our bodies need to become and remain healthy
come out of the ground. There was a tree of life in the garden. This was a real
tree with special properties to sustain eternal life. Now there was another
tree in the garden as well, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Man had
no knowledge of evil in the beginning, only of good. Man sinned, and took from
the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:22). The Lord then stated that man has become like one
of Us, knowing good and evil.
The garden was surrounded by
water, another life-sustaining property. Water was necessary for the growth of
the garden, as well as our bodies. God gave us a diet and still gives us a
diet.
The things
to help our bodies function properly.
We look to man to guide and influence our eating habits. Man has corrupted our
food because of greed. Man is intent on mass production, to increase profits,
so he uses steroids and other things to produce our food. When God permitted
the eating of meat, because the vegetation had been destroyed in the flood, He
never meant for man to OD on meat. The meat today is nothing like the meat in
that day. Even the animals in that day, ate herbs. They feed animals today a
lot different with the exception of some organic animals.
After the sin of Adam and
Eve, they got put out of the Garden. They could no longer eat from the tree of
life, but they were still on a vegetarian type of diet (Genesis 3:17-19). God then cursed the ground, and man had to labor
for his food. Man was to eat the herb of the field but now he had to really
work for his food, because now it brought forth thorns and thistles. These had
to be removed to get the food.
God gives us a choice - God
says, “I set before you this day blessing and curses, life and death. Choose
life and live.” Life is about healthy choices. What choices are you making that
don't support your health? (Duet. 30:19, 20)
God put man and woman in the
garden to tend and keep it. He gave them work to do. This work gave them
exercise as well as food. You see, they got to walk a lot. Everywhere they
went, they walked, and since they were not eating many heavy foods, they didn't
need to over-exercise to lose weight. The foods that they ate, their bodies did
not have to work hard to assimilate and break down. And the foods they ate were
alive with lots of nutrients and enzymes, that were
conducive to the body.
Junk foods breed junk - get
back to healthy eating. Make sure you are getting plenty of live foods that
have healing properties
in them, like raw fruits and vegetables. That is not to
say that you should not eat cooked foods, but that you need to make healthy
choices that enhance your health. Remember, disobedience comes with a price and
bad choices come with consequences. The
fruit tasted good, but oh what it cost Adam and Eve, and their offspring. Ouch.
