Blessing After Blessing

In keeping with today’s fast-pace to be the first, the biggest, and the best, companies, agencies, and organizations invite us to chat on-line with famous sports legends, order dinner-for-two in our favorite restaurant, purchase an automobile, a home, or even organize an entire family vacation.  One can conduct a worldwide business meeting from the comforts of home.  In fact, today, there is no need to wait for the postal service to “Fly like an eagle.”  Information can be filed, faxed, logged onto, researched, and acquired in a matter of seconds!  In the pursuit of modern convenience, we’ve become a hurried and busy society. 

            Every new day, each of us is bombarded with a variety of messages that attempt to persuade us to think, believe, and respond through flashing signs, billboards, internet communication, television, radio, and newspaper.  We are encouraged to change our minds about issues and values or about products and services.  We are strategically targeted with messages like the Army’s motto, “Be all that you can be!” or Nike’s, “Just do it!”  These messages are portrayed through motion pictures, public speakers, or simply by making a trip to the mailbox.  To say that we are not affected in our day-to-day living by these messages, or the messages we view on the evening news or read about in the daily newspaper, would be a gross understatement.

            The distractions and daily demands upon our lives can rapidly deplete our energy levels and keep us from the important things in life we need the most:  the sounds of quiet, silent, reflective time.  We all need quiet time to think about our dreams, time to think about what is working in our lives and what is not, time to reflect upon what changes God would have us make within our lives.
