About the Book

Directly after World War II, two young people from different backgrounds (an Irish girl and a Macanese boy) met in Shanghai, fell in love.  This boy happened to be in the USA as a student at the Stanford University in California who volunteered to fight for the USA when war was declared.  He was then sent to New Guinea to join his regiment to help the Allied Forces stop Japan from its incursions of the Far East regions.  At the battleground he contracted a severe case of malaria.  He was hospitalized in Shanghai where he met an Irish girl who was working as a nurse at the hospital.

The young couple was soon married and not long after their marriage, the Chinese Communist soldiers invaded Shanghai.  The Chinese Nationalist Forces and the American Forces then withdrew from Shangai.  The young couple with all other American military families were sent by the U.S. Government to the States.  They went to San Francisco where they established residence and raised two children.  The parents of the couple eventually immigrated to the U.S.A.

Though this a novel, it is replete with historical events that illuminated the days in question.
