PREFACE:
During the Second World War, there was a spirit in this country that we all could be proud of. A spirit that made us think beyond our selves, and to think about our neighbors at home and on the battlefields. There was a universal feeling of unity and fellowship. We stood tall and cared about one another. But that feeling, that lasted for many years after WWII and the Korean War, disappeared as jobs were lost, recessions became more common place, and we failed as a people to welcome home and properly honor our men and women who fought in Vietnam.
We can bring back that feeling of unity and fellowship, without another world war, by establishing innovative policies that make each of us mindful of our neighbor’s needs, and that imparts to each of us a sense of hope, pride and caring. (A generous heart makes heroes of us all.)
Community is a group activity, and a group activity requires cooperation and caring for one another. Personal success is achieved only when we help our neighbors to succeed. The following suggests one way to do this.
THE CHALLENGE: Achieve Full Employment & Eliminate Recessions
(Jobs we can count on every day of every year.)
Innovation and automation have made it possible for us to produce, even with millions of our neighbors laid-off, more than we are currently motivated to purchase. WHY? Because, we have concentrated our creative THINKING on innovation that continues to improve production (using less people), without giving sufficient thought to finding innovative ways (other than advertising) to come up with a viable plan that would improve our demand (desire) cycle for newer products, and newer replacement products sooner, so that our purchases are timely and sufficient to provide for full employment on a sustainable basis.
“REPRESENTATION”
“ALONE”
IS OBSOLETE
When was the last time (if ever) one of your representatives in the U.S. Congress sent you a letter, stating the pros and cons of a particular issue, and requesting “YOUR OPINION” as to whether he or she should vote “up or down on proposed legislation?
I’ve been voting for many, many, years, and I’ve never received such a letter. Oh, I’ve received a letter, about once every one or two years, that told me what my representative’s legislative priorities were. What he or she thought was the most important legislation for him or her to work on and promote. But, not once, did my representative ask me for my opinion as to which legislation should be at the top of the priority list, or if I agreed with the proposed legislation on his/her priority list.
How can they represent us without asking for our opinions? Answer, they can’t and they don’t. They rely on their own opinion, and on the opinions of the special interests who support their election campaigns. Therefore, our country is now run by the “special interests’ and for the “special interests.” It is no longer a country run by the people, for the people, nor has it been for many, many years. Changing our Campaign Finance Laws as outlined in Chapter 2, will torpedo the “Special Interests” for good.
In this day and age, with all the extremely fast methods of communication available to us, why should we continue to permit our representatives to represent us without consulting with us, but taking the time to consult with the lobbyists for the “Special Interests?
