“Shan!
These two girls are trying to fight me!” I jumped up out of my mid-day nap and
hit the ground running when I heard this. My little sister Angel was spouting
this as she came into the house. She was in a very agitated and frightful
state. This angered me, as she was very docile and gullible. The thought of
someone “messing” with her caused all of my sisterly defense strategies to come
into play. “Trying to fight you for what weren’t you supposed to be walking Sherita and Aurionne home?” I
asked.
I sat and listened to her explain
how the two girls, who had been bothering her for weeks now (unbeknownst to
me), had started following her and calling her out of her name when they saw
her walking some of her little friends home from our house.
It was hard for me to sit and
take all of this in, without charging out after them right then and there, but
I wanted to have the full story before exacting my revenge.
After she finished explaining I
looked her in the eyes and told her, “You can’t run forever. You’re doing what
I used to do when I was younger, so, I’m going to do for you what Benita did
for me. You’re going to fight these two girls.” At this revelation she burst
out crying and this only served to anger me more. Angel didn’t deserve this and
come hell or high water, these two girls, who also happened to be sisters, had
a kicked butt this day.
Also on this day I would come to
realize that my over-protectiveness of Angel was something not likely to change
and it by no means would be conditional.
Her death would send my emotional
well being into a tailspin, as well as cause me to take this hand dealt me,
personally. My journey back has been very difficult, uncertain, and
therapeutic, however, that last mile is the one that I feel will ultimately
make or break me.

About the Book
This book allows the reader to be
up close and personal to the emotional roller coaster that was the result of Shandra losing her little sister, Angel. Sadly enough, this
would come only fifty-two days after losing her “favorite” aunt. It’s blunt,
emotion packed, and will have you laughing and crying, as she details the many
situations that they’d find themselves in and the bond that had them so in tune
to one another that even they would shudder at its power. The flashbacks from
their childhood are uniquely ushered in and will allow you to step back in time
to experience each moment as she had. Often called “Super Woman” because of the
way that she’d come to care for and look after everyone else, yet maintain all
that applied, this would become a thing of the past, as it was she who would
find herself in need of a “savior.” The grief, denial, and depression would
become so severe that it’d cause her friend and daughters to experience
thoughts and concerns that they never had to worry about before. This just in:
