Eulogy for a Showman
The day has drawn to its darkened end.
Light shows fade out beyond twilight’s bend.
Ticket booth darkened, the end’s not far -
Silence bewildering between grass and star.
Generators cough, steel hammers sigh...
Metal beings disassembled, travel drawing nigh.
Foremen yelling for the Green to get to it...
Dismantling their present just to get through it.
A Mulligan Wheel crumbling to the ground
meticulously unraveling - later to be found
erected again. A great monster of heights.
But silenced for just this moment - just this night.
The Grand Carousel of Herschell’s persuasion
being stripped of horses in slough’s invasion.
Poles shaken loose as the great canvas falls -
wrapping in on itself, the work never stalls.
But I... I must leave to seek further spots
to play our show...to seek better lots.
I leave with fond sorrow wrapped in my heart.
Heaven is waiting, of which, we are all a part.
As the midway falls, it resurrects itself miles away
bright as the old. Its majestic charm never fades.
Not set in stone are our lives frail and swift.
I will be a part of the smallest aisle to the highest lift.
And when darkness meets the darkened carnival lights,
I will be watching the crew from the nearest of heights.
Do not mourn the passing of this simple man
but know... Know that I will set up again.
What You’re Looking For
When I question all inside me, straight to my being’s core
I look everywhere for your face, I open my heart’s door.
I look for you in every stream and every meadow rock.
I look for you in every infant’s eyes, and within every little lock.
Sometimes, I think you search for me just like I search for you.
Sometimes, I think you pray for me when I am praying too.
I think life teeters evenly, truly yang for every yin.
Sometimes I think that we must lose to truly count a win.
I found you in my heart, that’s where your wisdom stays.
It’s stored in its vault to be constantly replayed.
God doesn’t have to be so mysterious that we count him just as lore.
Look deep inside yourself to seek who you’re looking for.
I’m made from an image of which we question His existence.
He made us to look like Him, so that we may not know loneliness.
There’s always something greater when we feel our hearts are breaking.
Things happen for a reason and we must stop cursing and forsaking.
When you feel down on your faith, and feel that hate has won you through.
Just look into a mirror and realize, that God is looking back at you.
Beware the Snake
In darkness, the snake tightly coils
looking for some poor soul to attack.
Eyes unblinking and heart expounding
Biblical text of its lowly, twisted track.
Beware of this creature lurking about
for it has no soul for Heaven to confirm.
It might just reach out and try to steal you
and inject you with death’s venomous burn.
