Lisa opened her eyes. She was lying on the bathroom floor, and there was blood all around her. She couldn’t remember how she got there or why. She tried to get up, but her left wrist hurt, and she was awfully dizzy with a colossal headache. Blood was coming out of her left wrist. There was a face cloth next to her on the floor. She was able to pick it up and wrap it around her wrist. It didn’t help much.
Now her memory was coming back in bits and pieces. All she could remember was that she’d had a terrible fight with Brad, but she couldn’t remember what it was about. She was so dizzy, and when she tried to get up, the room started spinning. Lying on her stomach, she brought herself to her knees into a crawling position, but she could only use one hand and the other hand was holding the face cloth, so putting her elbows on the floor, she inched her way to the bedroom. It seemed to take forever because she had to keep stopping to rest. Finally, reaching the phone, she called 911. All she could say was “Help me,” before she blacked out. After a couple of minutes, she came to and hung up the phone. She called Mariah’s number, and again, she blacked out before Mariah answered. By the time she came to again, the line was dead. She decided to try to reach the front door. Although it seemed to take forever, she managed to reach it before she blacked out again.

About the Book
Lisa Quinn, who suffers from severe clinical depression, controlled with medication, comes from an affluent family and enjoys a trust fund set up by her father who committed suicide when she was a young girl. She is a successful interior designer and engaged to be married. With the world seemingly at her feet, why would she commit suicide?
Mariah Winters, born and raised in the mid-west, is a young woman who has struggled with mild depression and financial problems during her youth. Her depression was brought on when she was a teenager, and her mother was killed in an automobile accident. Unable to cope with his grief, her father becomes an alcoholic. After Mariah leaves home to go to college, her father realizes that he is ruining his life and hurting Mariah with his drinking problem. He joins AA and eventually meets and falls in love with a younger woman. They marry and have a son.
Mariah finds success and happiness as an interior designer, and with Lisa, with whom she becomes friendly at design school, they become partners in a decorating business in Lisa’s hometown of
This is a story about suspense and romance. But, without getting too clinical, it also tells about the illness of depression, and how it affects people in different ways. Lisa suffers from clinical depression, while Mariah has had bouts of depression brought on by events in her life, over which she had no control.
About the Author
Although she had always thought of trying her hand at writing a novel, Gladys never had the patience to sit at a typewriter to write - and rewrite - and rewrite. But, she loved to read, especially mystery or romantic novels.
After working forty years as a legal secretary, where she had gained experience drafting and writing legal documents, she became semi-retired. She found herself with time on her hands and, now that she was proficient with the computer (word processing), it was a breeze to write (and rewrite and rewrite) her first novel, “Her Guardian Angel.”
