When I was five and a half months pregnant Phil came in about

as soon as I opened the door he hit me in the stomach, I fell and hit the corner of the kitchen table. I felt the baby move. He started pushing me towards the bedroom, as soon as we got in bed he wanted sex. He ripped my under pants off and my gown and bent my legs over my head, he had my arms pinned down with his hands. I was doubled up tight and he was so rough on me that I kept saying to him you are going to hurt the baby and you are hurting me. He forced himself inside me, It felt like he was tearing me apart , from the weight of his body it felt like he was breaking my back. I felt my baby moving, I knew the baby was in pain. Phil murdered our baby. The baby got in a hard knot like a ball and I was in severe pain. I managed to get my right leg down far enough and kicked him off of me and on to the floor. I was horrified.
Mom Willis got up and wanted to know what was going on. I got out of bed and started rubbing
my stomach to get the baby to move, I was terrified. After awhile I felt a slight movement like
the baby relaxed, the baby never moved again. It was no-longer the pain of the flesh but the pain of my spirit had just been crushed out of me. I wanted to die from the emotional and eternal pain I knew I would feel for the rest of my life if what I had suspected had really happened to me that dreadful night.

About the Author
Ruth Spurlin, born to an alcoholic father and a strict disciplinarian mother. Living in poverty, she went to work at the age of nine as a farm hand. Married at fourteen convinced she would be moving from poverty and fear, to a new hope of joy with a loving husband. However, she found herself living in more fear and desperately trying to protect herself and her children from a husband who frequently beat her, once so badly he killed their unborn baby.
