About the Book

I Promised Cochise is a haunting tale set in Tucson and Cochise County, Arizona, that will take you back to the yesteryear of moccasin-worn paths crossing Texas Canyon and forward into the 21st century where the awesome beauty of Cochise’s land awaits all who dare to venture into the past.

Champion race car driver Kelly McMurray is one who does dare to venture into the past by accepting  an invitation to visit Peggy Lowell at her historic Dragoon Ranch which was established in 1890. As so often happens Fate steps in and instead of the anticipated romantic weekend to be spent in the arms of enchanting Peggy he finds himself caught in a woven web of intrigue, lies and the legend of Cochise from which there is no escape!

Indeed, the haunting legacy of the great chief’s admonishments, (“You must speak straight so that words may go as sunlight into our hearts.  Speak Americans.  I will not lie to you, do not lie to me.”), are as meaningful today as they were when spoken from the mountain tops and can still be heard if you only dare to hike the tear-stained paths of yesteryear.

About the Author

A change in residence from coastal Maine to Arizona’s Sonoran Desert is reflected in Alice Louise Hardy’s second novel I Promised Cochise.  As she did before writing her first novel, the seafaring narrative Escape From A Canvas World, Louise drew upon her own travels and experiences in order to capture the fascinating history and awesome beauty of southeastern Arizona to weave this new romantic mystery.  She is currently working on her third novel set in India where she and her husband lived for several years during the trying aftermath of partition.
