Just Suppose...

Time and time again he asks, but still the same response, no rooms available.  By now I imagine that he is rather upset!  The Son of God is in my wife and no one has room for Him!

Finally he blurts out to one innkeeper , “Anything will do, even a stable, I just need someplace for my wife to have her baby!”

“There is one just around out in back, it’s yours, take it.” replies the innkeeper.

So Joseph and Mary have a place at last.  Far from what either probably had planned.  This was the birth of a King!  We would expect a palace or a nice room, and what we got was a place to house the animals from the night air.

Dark, dirty, smelly except for the torches and lamps used to light the place.

But on that night something wonderful happened.  It was a simple birth, in a simple place.  But what happened that night will be remembered for years to come.

One who was there that night that quietly observed everything and later got to help was a spider.  She was your ordinary barn spider.  You know you can’t have any kind of barn or stable without the resident spider.  Her name was Esther.

From her lofty corner in the rafters Esther watched as Joseph and Mary entered the stable that night.  She had seen many people come and go, but tonight her heart jumped inside her as she felt something was different about this couple.  She couldn’t put her leg on it, but somehow knew they were special people.
