Fasten your safety belt and get ready for this ride, and if you’re not mad now, you will be. First, what is the definition of “illegal alien”? Broken down, you find the definition of illegal is “against the law.” The definition of alien is “foreigner.” Well then, illegal alien must mean illegal foreigner. Let’s take a closer look at what names have been and are being used to mislead you and me concerning illegal aliens. Some examples to be on the lookout for: migrant, transient migrant, undocumented worker, foreign national, and citizen. That’s right; can you believe it? President Bush used the word “citizen”. (Last week, Mr. Bush spoke out in favor of the immigrants: “Remember, we’ve got hardworking citizens who are willing to walk 400 miles of desert in blistering heat to find work,” he said [BBC 8/10/2001]). On November 17, 2001 “Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt said Saturday that they would forge ahead with immigration reform early next year, including some kind of legal residency for Mexican migrants already living in the United States. Gephardt said that those who would benefit are ‘people who have been in the United States for a long time, paid taxes, obeyed the laws, and been very good citizens.’” Oh Tom, and you there, Richard, you’re talking about illegal aliens. Get it straight. Burglars are not uninvited houseguests. Bank robbers are not making unauthorized withdrawals.
