Their imaginations were soaring long before they reached one another...kicking up dust with their summer worn tennis-shoes as they skidded playfully to a stop. Jodie slithered on her belly in her denim shirt and jeans beside the boys into the hut, never thinking for a moment that she wasn’t one of the guys. Before this particular ****************************************************************************** A.J. could see Jet through the prism of the front door glass motioning for him to come outside. Jeff glanced up from their game and nudged David, nodding in the direction of A. J., who was now outside. They witnessed him kicking the car’s tire as Jet eased out of the narrow parking area. They rushed out to see if he needed their assistance. “He’s just dumb,” A.J. had snapped.. “He needs to get himself together and leave people alone.” He did not go into detail about his conversation with Jet, but they could tell he was frustrated. He wasn’t in the mood for foosball any longer. They did their usual handshake and A. J. left for home...This was the account of the evenings events reported to Jodie, by Jeff and David, as she sat outside on the rust-colored, deck-stained porch at 6:00, that following morning. A.J. was missing. She felt her guts tighten as the possibilities of where he could be teased her thoughts in a hide and seek frenzy.

About the Book
Angel Rivals is simple reading for young Americans and their families. It’s a story of how economic change and peer pressure challenges three teenagers and transforms a childhood rivalry into an unspoken, concrete bond. But¼the bond did not protect Jodie from the loss of her best friend¼her brother. While desperately searching for a murderer, she accuses the only person that shared her most precious memories. Jodie learns the valuable lesson that “keeping secrets” is far worse than “telling someone”.
About the Author
Beverly Slater enjoys writing in both her professional and personal life. She was a substitute teacher and has presented a safety program to over 3500 children. She spent seventeen years in the Mental Health field working to help people in the areas of Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation, Adult Mental Health, Crisis Intervention for the Mentally Ill and abused women/families. She has college studies in English Composition and Creative Writing. This is her first book. She hopes that Angel Rivals will influence young Americans to speak out against drugs and fight the trend of fear, and peer pressure, that cripples them from getting help for themselves, or someone they care about.
