Momma T's Home Cooking, The Story Of Alyce Tipper's Kitchen

      When I had my catering business I had students from the California Culinary Academy helping with preparation and often passing hors d''oeuvres at events.  Alex, my son, was also a big help.  He did everything from chopping onions to emptying garbage cans.  Ken, well, he was always there for me.  He loaded and unloaded my big truck and generally, watched all operations of any given event.  He can also make a mean vegetable tray.  Catering is hard work and I enjoyed the four years of owning my own company.  At the time, I was also working a full time job and I didn’t want to have things get out of control.  Therefore, I made a decision to put the catering off for a while.  I still have all of my equipment and one day I may start all over again, on bigger terms.  But for now, I get so much pleasure out of just cooking here at home for Ken and Alex.

I wish Alex and mom could have gotten the chance to know one another.  All of the foods that Alex loves are the same ones mom used to make and love.  He loves biscuits and if he would have had the opportunity to eat one of her biscuits, he would have wanted to live with her.

Unfortunately, we lost mom in August of 1989 at the young age of 55 to heart disease.  She sure left a lot of people with some good memories, good times, and good food!

I sure hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the special relationship I had with my mom and the special feelings that other people had for her and her cooking.  I enjoyed touching base with people that I hadn’t talked to in years (thanks to my wonderful dad) and it’s been so interesting hearing the nice things people have had to say about her.  Such warm feelings filled my heart and that’s how you felt when you ate a meal in “Momma T’s” kitchen.
