About the Author

F. (Rick) Harnasch was born and raised in a small town in northern Indiana.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue, majoring in science, engineering and English. He was awarded an MS, with majors in Psychology and Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston. He was nearing completion of his PhD in Psychology when he was inducted into the U.S. Army, assigned to the Adjutant General’s Corp as a Psychologist, and stationed in California. After completing his service obligation, he decided to seek his career niche in industry.

And find a niche he did, advancing through many specialist assignments as well as numerous management positions in all aspects of Human Resources. He ended a very satisfying career after serving a number of years in an Executive Management position over multiple departments responsible for all Industrial Relations activities in a major, high-tech, international corporation.

He currently resides in Irvine, California, and now has taken time to reflect on his early, formative years growing up in a small Midwestern town. His many unique experiences were permanently engraved in his memory. With those and a few notes, he is now able to share a multitude of activities, observations, and feelings from when he was growing up in that small Indiana town. Vivid descriptions of the activities have been created, and he carefully recreates the thoughts of himself and those around him at the time. His understanding of people and human nature now serves him well in recapturing key elements of the past in light and insightful tales.

The author, through his stories, is able to reflect a time when, in one sense, life and growing up was much less complicated. At the same time, through his words we are also reminded that it was also a time when there were a number of limiting factors that actually made living considerably more complicated than it is today.

Reminiscent of the adventures of Ralphie in Jean Shepard’s A Christmas Story and the wisdom of youth as exhibited by Holden Caulfield in J. D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye, the stories here are far more unique but equally entertaining, descriptive, and insightful.

Whether you wish to find out how very unusual and unique it could be growing up in a small Indiana town, or simply be led to thoughts of your own early years, you’ll find this to be your ticket.
