Alas! After all these years I have found the friend for whom I have been searching. She is “neither man nor woman,” she is “neither brute nor beast.” She is but a pen. Lo! One needs humans not, when one can have such an ethereal confidante as one’s own writing.
To humans now, I shut my door. Yet I open another, brighter door into the cavern-like depths of mind and soul. Into this fantasy realm no human shall ever see. All thoughts and feelings from this inner self shall be poured without a stint into my poetry and fictions. In this way, writing shall become a part of me; my voice, my hands, my feet. Without it I shall be a deaf and mute invalid. I shall be out at sea in a fragile canoe, rowing desperately across never-ending waters toward a non-existent shore. Without writing, much of me shall die.
And writing shall never leave me or cause me pain. It shall be my only playmate forever and ever. No one can take away my precious words. I shall hug them close to my heart and forever cherish them.

About the Book
This book is a compilation of poems, written during some of the lowest times of my life. One recurring theme is the loss of innocence, something universal to all teens—to some extent. For me it led to depression and other neuroses, and that is the birthplace of many of my poems. Read this book with an open mind, and may you see in it a little of yourself.
About the Author
The author is publishing this book in order to give a voice to those without any—the mentally ill. She is working toward a degree in psychology, and hopes to further aid those people. As of the moment, Childhood Lost is her only work in print.
