About the Book

Grounded in vivid memories of the author’s childhood, The Steel Pillar is an inspirational novel about two people struggling to raise a large family in a way that harmonizes well with their times and their religious beliefs.  It is mostly the story of a woman who epitomizes modern motherhood and continues to get pleasure from seeing her children succeed by applying the old fashion work ethics and solid values instilled in them. Through the use of amusing anecdotes, the reader gains understanding into the many ways in which she uses her insightful gifts to cope and conquer challenges. 

About the Author

Joseph J. Nicolas, M.D., is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, and has taught Clinical Internal Medicine for twenty years.  He is currently in private practice in Queens Village, New York.
