About the Book

Are you uncertain about life after death, the destiny of the soul, the time and nature of the resurrection? This book is a comprehensive examination of the Biblical teaching regarding the destiny of the soul and the future resurrections. It is a careful examination of the use of the words ''Sheol'' and ''Hades'' to describe the state and condition of the immaterial part of humans following physical death. Within the Biblical context, the words are clearly distinct from the grave. Those words refer specifically to the destiny of the ''soul'' or the immaterial part of mankind.

Five groups are identified as separate and distinct. At death, the soul of each departs to a place Biblically called ''sheol'', ''hades'', ''paradise'', ''Abraham''s bosom'', ''heaven'' and ''hell''. The destiny of all believers, Jew and Gentile, is shown to be in ''sheol/hades\ However, it was relocated for believers who died after the resurrection of Jesus. The change in location and reasons for the change are examined in detail "comparing Scripture with Scripture." The destiny of non-believers, from all Biblical time periods, is also examined.

The nature and time of the resurrection of the bodies and souls of all humans, both believers and non-believers, including the final judgment are examined. Since some Bible scholars teach the trichotomy of humans, the destination of the ''spirit'' is also discussed.

The destiny of infants who die before knowing right and wrong, the destiny of King Saul and the destiny of the angels who sinned are also considered.   Jonah, a type of Christ, is also explained historically and typologically. Several charts are included to illustrate the text. The book is scholarly, Biblical, dispensational, conservative and evangelistic. If you have any interest in life after death, as described in the Bible, you need this book.

About the Author

Paul Philson Hipps, PhD was born in Curwensville, Pa. He has walked with the Lord since he trusted Christ on August 4, 1942. During his junior and senior high school years, he began preaching the gospel in the county jail and on the streets. He graduated as salutatorian from Curwensville High School and attended Philadelphia Bible Institute. Subsequently, at the New Tribes Institute he taught, studied and met his wife, Madonna. They were set apart for the Lord''s work at that time. Blessed with three faithful, believing children, he obtained employment while attending Lakeland College, where he was graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and minors in Bible, Mathematics, and Education. He has lifetime certification in secondary education.

An NDEA fellowship provided for studies at North Dakota State University where he was awarded the PhD in Chemistry. During this time he and his wife established a local church. He accepted a research position in Psychiatry at WUSM (Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis) and authored several scientific papers on basic brain metabolism.

Following passage of the Environmental Protection Act, he established the WUSM Department of EHS (Environment, Health and Safety). As Director, he authored the first laboratory safety manual for use in research facilities within academic institutions. A capable instructor in chemistry and academic EHS, he also taught at many national seminars. As a ''tent-making'' worker, he taught Bible Classes several times weekly. Although considered ''deep'', they were taught in a scholarly, but simple, understandable manner. He is known as a scholarly, conservative, fundamental, dispensational and evangelistic Bible teacher approaching the Scriptures as a scientist entering the laboratory of God''s inerrant Word seeking to examine its treasures. Since retirement, he has devoted himself to Bible study, writing, jail and prison ministry, teaching, counseling and evangelism.
