Sheila awoke early and sat up abruptly in the bed, Jerry her husband was still asleep beside her she noticed a joyous smile on his face it was running from cheek to cheek, as though whatever or where ever he was in his dream adventures he was certainly having a happy feeling good time, Sheila had retired to bed the night prior following a distressing telephone episode. What had happened was about eleven o’clock P.M. their telephone ranged and she answered it. The person on the other end of the line said nothing after Sheila politely said hello and the caller grunted, sounding like a female expression of disappointment then quickly slammed down the phone loudly in Sheila’s ear.
At first Sheila simply thought that just maybe the caller had realized that they had dialed the wrong number and being in a rush perhaps simply proceeded to try and correct their mistake, oh well. Her thoughts and feelings changed about three and a half minutes later when the telephone rung again and Jerry answered it, after saying hello he listened for a few seconds and then began to muffle his tone as he walked with the portable phone into the next room. After mumbling a little while longer he cut off the phone, placed it on the kitchen table and ran upstairs Sheila suddenly felt for some strange reason that the two previous telephone calls were related in some way to one another. After about ten minutes Jerry returned from upstairs, came over to Sheila tap kissed and hugged her and said I’ll be back in about an hour, he then started towards the door after grabbing his keys off of the television. Sheila at this time felt somewhat dumbfounded and asked him before he reached the door, if it is not too much of an invasion of your space and individuality could you please tell me who was on the phone and where in the hell are you rushing off to at this late hour of the night? At this point Jerry turned and sternly said, first of all you are not my mama you are my wife and you’re not here to raise me you’re suppose to be here to share my life, but if it will make you feel better and keep down the fussing I’ll tell you, that was my brother on the phone, he’s involved in a problem and asked for my help, I’ll be able To tell you more in detail when I get back okay (he had spoken unnecessarily loud and mean, in her honest opinion) Sheila said, well excuse me, your highness mister mother fucker, Jerry, frowning angrily then turned and left out of the door without any more further conversation, procrastination or hesitation and was gone.
Sheila found herself becoming plenty angry and upset seemingly with some just cause, based on a few logical factors, one, being that Jerry didn’t even bother to ask her about the quick strange phone call although he was watching and listening through the whole process, it seemed to Sheila that he didn’t ask about it because he already knew about it and was more than likely expecting the phone call, two, how fast Jerry grabbed the portable phone when the second call came and automatically went into the kitchen as though it was premeditated and he knew he would need some slight privacy, three, usually on a night before having to go to work the next morning at six o’clock A.M. he would not hangout late with his brother, mother, Sheila herself or anyone else, yet here he was tonight after that quite phone call, flying out the door and into the darkness of night, lastly, Sheila had been feeling a little left out or forgotten about for the past few weeks it seemed as though Jerry was preoccupied with something or someone else and it sure wasn’t his job either. Sheila then thought to look at the caller ID for the last two calls, just out of curiosity and suspicion she did, but found both calls listed as blocked on the ID caller machine, at this point she wished she had said yes to having star69 put on the phone when the telephone company customer service called last weekend, but then, she could not have known.
