Throughout the book you will find that every principle points to the importance of abiding by the state practice act and Medicare Rules and regulations. The reason it is important to know this is directly related to objectivity. The rules and regulations provided by the government and the state regarding the practice and payment for services rendered are there for a reason. Medicare and all of the private insurance companies are no different than you in regards to paying for services. We demand that our car be serviced properly by the local mechanic:
Objectivity- Show me what is wrong or explain it in terms I can understand.
Efficiency- I need my car back as soon as possible.
Billing- Don’t expect me to pay for something that does not work or you did not do.
Most of the time we walk away from these situations wondering “did they stick it to me”, “did they really change the right part”, “maybe the part they changed was not the most cost effective”, “I wonder how long it will be before it brakes again.”
Going into the healthcare field we often think that people will trust us because we deal with helping people but working on a car helps people right? Once you graduate and begin your practice be prepared to justify what you are doing. Providing patient care that is ethical, objective, and goal based is the key and the future of our survival as a profession. Words like error rate testing, and evidence-based strategies are just a few Medicare utilizes to say they are looking for over utilization and improper billing. Medicare is preparing for the largest group of people in our nation to require medical assistance and it is trying to accomplish this task by making sure the healthcare professionals are providing the most efficient cost effective treatments available. It is my belief that this book will help the future Physical Therapist and the seasoned Therapist accomplish that goal.

Keep digging in finding the true cause of the patient’s limitations while simultaneously thinking of how to correct the problem and document the truth. Just a reminder, words like; Program integrity, and Error Rates, coupled with the fact that Medicare is requesting $720 million for the Medicare Integrity Program means the medical community should take notice. About the Author
Monie Phillips is a licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Louisiana practicing in an acute care setting as the Director of Rehab services. Monie served a total of ten years in the Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic, he is licensed as an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic and he worked for the Jackson International Airport as Chief Inspector while finishing his prerequisite course work for Physical Therapy. Monie served in the Mississippi Air Nation Guard during the Gulf War and later resigned his positions in the Aircraft industry completely when he was accepted into the Physical Therapy program. He graduated form the University of Mississippi Medical Center in May of 1996. Monie was born in Jackson Mississippi were he met and married his wife Candace who is a Registered Nurse / Branch manager in a Home Health setting. They have three healthy children, two girls and a boy, Presley, Kelsie and Monie IV. Monie and Candace are devoted to God, family and profession. Monie enjoys weight training, wakeboarding, Jet Skiing, and helping others
