SHOEANNA THE LITTLE BIRD
SHOEANNA was a small bird. What kind of bird was she? She was a Carolina Wren. But let me tell you the story of SHOEANNA.
Granddaddy always takes his shoes off to go into his home this way he helps Grandmother to keep the floor clean. This is a good idea so to help Granddaddy, Grandmother put a rack near the from door this way Granddaddy could put his shoes up on the shelf in the rack. Granddaddy always put his shoes high up and in the same place every time.
SHOEANNA BUILDS A NEST:
It was a very nice warm spring day when Granddaddy was going out into the yard and picked up his shoe getting ready to put them on when he saw some leaves and straw inside. Granddaddy said hey what is going on with my shoes getting trash in them. He emptied the shoes out and the next day he started to go out again and was again surprised by straw and leaves inside his shoe. This time granddaddy left his shoe alone and went back into the house and started to watch out the window to see what was happening. Well to his surprise there came this little bird and started building a nest inside his shoe right beside the front door. Granddaddy said so that is what is happening well I will just use my other shoes in the house and let the little bird build her nest in those shoes. But wait just a minute there are two birds bringing straw and leaves to the nest. One is the mother bird and one is a father bird they both work very hard together to build a nest in which the mother bird will lay her eggs and hatch out some baby birds. They both work on the nest for about two weeks
SEE THE EGGS:
Then the mother bird starts to stay on the nest most of the time. The husband bird sometimes bring her food to eat. Keeping Shoeanna fed became a very busy job for her husband so Granddaddy named Shoeanna’s husband BusyBob. During the time the mother bird is on the nest she starts to lay small bird eggs. These eggs may hatch out, into baby birds exactly like their mother and daddy birds . When the mother bird keeps them warm and turned over often. Then one day the mother bird lays one egg and then the second day she lays two eggs then three , four and finally five eggs in the nest. Now the Mother bird stays on the nest almost all the time so that she can keep the eggs warn and occasionally turned over this is what is needed to help the eggs hatch. The father bird now brings almost all of the food the mother bird needs. She will need a lot of food that gives her strength for the next several weeks. The favorite food is insect or bugs. They also like caterpillars and crickets as well. Now the Mother bird sits and sits on her nest for one week and then she keeps sitting for the next week.

About the Book
The book is intended to teach young children about nature and how close to us nature is every day. It is also intended to teach the children how the birds hatch eggs , clean their nest, and care for their young birds. It also teaches respect for nature and how to observe Nature but not to disturb the Natural process of Birds and Animals. It also teaches some about what this type of bird is like and what it eats and how it sounds in the wild.
About the Author
Jerry W. Porter is a 66 year old retired aerospace worker. He has always been an outdoorsman and observing Nature is not only a hobby but a passion with him. Having lived in many states as well as some foreign countries has increased his awareness of wildlife and observation abilities. He has always feed wildlife and plants food in his garden for them. He very much enjoys watching the birds on his bird feeders in his yard.
When He started telling my grandkids about the bird in my shoe it seemed like a good idea to write a children’s book and teach them how wonderful nature is and how close to us the wildlife really lives. This love of birds and nature is shared by his wife of 44 years.
