I held the containment box in my left hand, while I did the magical gestures with my right hand. 

     I concentrated and at first, I felt a great resistance. I concentrated on a smaller area, and even chanted to help concentrate and put more power into the spell.

     I felt a small piece come toward me. I was able to get the sample she wanted. I was about thirty yards away to start with.

      As the sample got within five feet, I heard “Look out!”

      Suddenly I saw a slender pseudopod of the beast follow the sample.

      I realized I had not broken off a piece, just stretched the connecting tissue very thin.

     The resistance I had felt was now gone. The creature was reaching for me, and I was pulling it toward me with telekinesis.

     The creature hit my right hand and started to ooze up my fingers and across the back of my hand.

     I felt the energy of the phaser, and the energy of the creature.

     I also knew the creature was not intelligent. It had no more mind than an amoeba.

     However, I also knew that unless I got it off me in the next few seconds, I was going to be its next meal, as I could feel it absorbing my hand.

     My mind raced. Time slowed, and my life flashed before my eyes. I wondered if I would be absorbed quickly or slowly, and if my mind would be come part of the creature.

     I then remembered one of the spells from the demon book, volume six of twelve. It was a spell to absorb the demons’ powers. It also meant the demon got partial control of your mind, and would eventually overpower your own.

     Therefore, it was a case of absorb, or be absorbed.

     I opened my mind, and said the one word that was part of the spell. I was desperate, and willed everything I had into the spell.

     I could feel the battle going on in my hand between the creature and myself.

     It was no longer absorbing me. I was absorbing it, and its power.  It tried to break off, but I now had control.

I took a few steps forward.

    I repeated the spell, now full of confidence, and newfound energy.

     I also remembered some binding spells and other things that I now incorporated.
