About the Book

My sista…This is Your Life is a compilation of poems that were composed and inspired by various episodes of not only my life, but the lives of the people around me, as well. Although it was created to target African American women, these poems are relatively appropriate for individuals of any race, gender, or social status. Many if us have been in bad relationships that either ended in abuse (Get Away) or a broken heart. We have also found true love that had been proven to be actually true, or just mirage (Too Good to Be True). There isn’t one person out there who hasn’t found someone who they felt was the sexiest being on the planet (Chocolate Dream). As far as life lessons, even if you didn’t grow up in an urban setting, you might’ve still gone through things that I went through, as far as issues with self esteem (beauty Don’t Live Here), or losing a loved one (Fly Away). I hope that anyone who purchase this book will find some kind of inspiration and comfort in my words. Just knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life will be satisfying enough.

About the Author

For as long as I can recall, I have been very passionate when it came to writing.  Over the years, however, my writing style has matured and altered to fit the current issues that go on today. During my younger years, my imagination was enormous, and I found myself writing various songs, plays, and short stories.

As a teen, I found an interest in writing poems, and I had the opportunity to write for my high school’s literary magazine between 1989 and 1992. One of my first “real” poems that I wrote was entitled “Sweetsville”. I entered this poem in the monthly poetry writing competition,  and  won first prize.

My peers would compliment me on my work, and some would even ask me to “ghost write” for them. With their constant appreciation for my work, I became more and more motivated, and thus, my desire to write was born.

Many years have passed since my high school days, and as a full grown adult, my writing has become more sensual, meaningful, and personal. I have taken notes from my life, along with the people around me, as well as various social issues that go on today, and I have turned them into words of hope and inspiration.

Whether I become a successful writer or not, I only hope that my words with be enlightening as well as entertaining to those who have the same love of poetry and literature as I do.
