"Rocket Boy"
Cliffy
was a strange little boy.
He stayed in his room
making strange little toys.
He had no friends
but he didn’t care.
He stayed in this room
that was under the stairs.
He had a bedroom
and that is where he slept.
But when he awoke
to the secret room he crept.
He stayed down there all day
only coming out to eat.
Not a shout or even a whisper,
we never heard a peep.
Every now and then
we would hear a big Ca-Boom!
Then see a little smoke
beneath the door of his secret room.
His parents began to worry
about the safety of their son.
Was he playing with something dangerous?
Was it going to hurt someone?
They walked down the stairs
and lightly tapped on the door.
When Cliffy finally opened it,
his parents hit the floor.
The room was full of smoke,
and lots of strange looking gadgets.
It was a science lab that he had made,
for all of his crazy projects.
In the middle of this little room
was a monster of a thing.
It stood 7 ft. tall, silver and red,
had a pointy nose and a wing.
“Oh my gosh!” His mother screamed.
“Our son has built a rocket!”
How in the world could you plug that in
to such a tiny little socket?
“Surely it will work!” Cliffy said.
Assuring his parents,
that stood there half dead.
You will scare all of the neighbors!
You will blow up the house!
How could you have built this,
as quiet as a mouse?
It was hard,
but I learned it in school.
You learned how to make a rocket
out of kitchen tools?
His father finally said,
“Ok,” we will see if it will fly.”

About the Book
Tall, Tall Tails is a book of children’s poetry that allows the child to create a level of vivid imagery that is creative and colorful. It deals with everyday life for not only children, but adults the same. The poem “Barking Daisy,” it is about a dog that is driving a woman completely mad with her abnoxious barking. Daisy is let outside at all hours of the day and night, and stands right at her window barking. She tries everything, but nothing works. Finally, she resorts to sleeping with ear plugs, and her problem is solved. The poems are written in a very unique and simple style, allowing the children to easily relate. Putting a twist on them, they are funny and exciting, yet encouraging good morals. Some of the poems are realistic, and some are just plain comical.
