SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2001 It was time to go and see it for myself. I felt strong enough and I owed it to each soul that was lost to go pay my respects. I had no idea what to expect. Troy drove the long way to the Pentagon and asked me, probably a hundred times, if I was sure I wanted to do this. I assured him that I needed to, but that I certainly didn't want to do this. A few nights prior to this, I hit a low point... Troy had gone out with some friends. I hadn't been in the mood I was still in a funk. In retrospect, I think it was pure depression. I was alone in the house trying to do normal things... play with the dog, watch a movie, do a little laundry. Then I absolutely lost it. It was awful. You know that hyper-ventilating crying you did as a kid; well this was it again. I doubt that I will ever be able to explain what exactly I went through that night. I don't know why I was affected as deeply as I was. I kept asking myself that question. Why am I so upset? I'm fortunate. I've got my whole family intact. All my friends are present and accounted for. I still have a job and a roof over my head. What the hell is wrong with me?

About the Author
Susan Scott Teachey was born in Richmond, Virginia and her ancestry in this country dates back to 1709 from a little-known town of Teachey, North Carolina. Her family has served in every major war ever fought for this country. With 23 years of experience as a graphic designer, Ms. Teachey has a respected position in the local graphic arts community, and owns a graphics studio. In addition to donating proceeds from the sale of this book, Susan participates in other projects to provide funding for the Pentagon victims and their families. She also participates in other charities for the benefit of children, troops and veterans.
