Chapter 2
Why Bother? I’d Rather be Shopping!
While you may be tempted to let your man fish while you hit the sales at the mall, there are several reasons I can give you why fishing with your man is a great idea.
1. Nature at it’s finest
Nature is at its finest on a beautiful sunny day, floating on the crystal clear blue water reflecting the billowy white clouds from above, the geese and bald eagles sailing in the breeze. You cannot see that when you are doing dishes and laundry, which is why I highly recommend fishing over chores. You see, I can honestly say “Any perfect day of fishin’ is better than any day of work.”
The fishermen I know call me a fair weather fisherman, and I am guessing you are also. I want the scene I just described or I am not going. I find none of the adjectives of that gorgeous day come to mind when my teeth are chattering and I am drenched. I live in Indiana, so you have to be prepared for a sudden change in weather (which is why this book has a chapter on clothing). If the weather becomes too bad, then I am ready for the mall.

Tips for Actually Fishing
When it comes to baiting your hook, I suggest you put your lower lip out and give your man those puppy dog eyes so he will bait your hook. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. In the event it does not work, be sure to have a rag nearby to wipe off your hands if you are using live bait. You can use paper towels, antiseptic wipes, or a wet cloth. I have all these things listed in the seventh chapter about what to be sure to have in your bag.
Worms are really nasty. Well, not really the worms, but the bedding the worms are in is nasty. It seems to get under your nails and never go away until your shower back home. Minnows and crickets are less messy, but you do have to get over putting the hook into their little bodies. Again, that lower lip sometimes works for me.

Sally is a Registered Nurse with a Master of Science Management Degree from Oakland City University. She is currently the Director of Nursing for Cancer Services at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. She was raised in Seymour, a small town in southern Indiana, in a household that enjoyed many weekends of camping and fishing. When she married an avid outdoorsman, her weekends became filled with more camping and fishing. Having started the cancer services at her local hospital, she continues to care for cancer patients, which has helped her to value family, friends, and the nature around her, living each day to its fullest.
