NUMBER FIVE GRACE FIVE is the number in the Word of God that is associated with God’s GRACE. FIVE is FOUR plus ONE. It is the next number after FOUR, which is the CREATION number. Before God created man he purposed to manifest his GRACE. Proof of this is found in 2 Timothy 1:9, "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and GRACE, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began . . ." The word GRACE is used FIVE times in succession in Romans 11:5-6, "Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of GRACE (1). And if by GRACE (2), then is it no more of works: otherwise GRACE (3) is no more GRACE (4). But if it be of works, then it is no more GRACE (5): otherwise work is no more work." Here the word GRACE occurs FIVE times in two verses. The word is not found again in this chapter. Is there not significance in this? If the reader will check again on the above quotation he will see that the words "work" and "works" are found FOUR times. Why is GRACE mentioned FIVE times and "work" FOUR times? GRACE is of God. The works mentioned here are of man. The natural man, man of the first creation, the unsaved man is represented by the number FOUR. He depends upon himself and his own works for salvation. So his work is mentioned FOUR times. If man is saved he must be brought out of the place he occupies, represented by FOUR. He must be brought to GRACE, represented by FIVE. This becomes more enlightening with further study.

About the Author
George Elliott Jones was born in 1889, the second son of Dr. W. A. Jones and his wife Etta. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist College in 1914, having entered the gospel ministry two years previously. In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France and Germany. In 1919, he married Miss Faye Crotchett of Argenta, Arkansas. G. E. Jones was active in pastoral, evangelistic and teaching ministry for over 53 years. His writing career began in 1931 and continued until his death in 1966. During this time he wrote adult literature for his denomination, contributed articles to various religious and secular papers, and authored 40 books, including A Verse by Verse Commentary on Revelation and The Pattern, The Tabernacle, The Christ.
