About the Book

Meet these notable women and others as you walk in their footsteps around downtown Chicago in three short journeys outlined in this book. From the earliest days of permanent settlement to the present, women’s sacrifices, commitment, and creativity have shaped this city. Our lives today reflect the legacy of these women. You will find these tours interesting and informative, and perhaps even provocative.

About the Author

Jean Spaay Hunt taught at Harold Washington (formerly Loop) College for over a quarter of a century. She founded the Chicago Area Women’s History Council (originally Conference) in 1971 to promote education and research on women’s history and is co-author of Walking With Women Through Chicago History: Four Self-Guided Tours. She has also scripted a boat tour of Chicago’s history along the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. In 1987 she coordinated the yearlong celebration of Chicago’s Sesquicentennial, and she managed the four-month-long exhibit in 1981-1982 of Judy Chicago’s massive artwork, The Dinner Party.
