About the Book

The definition of vision is: The faculty to sense light; the act of seeing; that which is seen or has been seen; a mental representation, as in sleep; a nightmare; an apparition; a fantasy; an inspired revelation; a fancy of the imagination; a hope for the future. This book, a fancy of the imagination, is about sight and the lack of sight; it is, a tale of a nightmare, a revelation, and a hope for the future.

A sudden catastrophic inability to see, challenges our civilization; the story is fictitious but the frailty of our society, it exposes, is real.

How will each one of us respond to such a cataclysmic event? Examples of different responses are told in short story form. Bill, in a heroic effort, tries to salvage the old world. Gerhard attempts to use the disaster for his personal gain. Laura learns, for the first time, to face the reality of life, while the Emperor reawakens to life. Jerry creates a new world with a new morality, while June and Drew recreate a new miniaturized version of the old society. For Margi it is an inspired revelation and with George’s retrospective view, we see a hope for the future.

About the Author

William O. Sass MD is an Ophthalmologist who is the author of a published novel, Lili La Rosiére. He has lectured internationally on quantitative computerized perimetry and on cataract surgery. He was the First President of the Octopus Visual Field Society and one of the earliest surgeons to use phacoemulsification.
