Extract from 'A Close Encounter'
The yellow eyes bored into mine. As the lips parted I saw fangs dripping with saliva. I was petrified, frozen with fear. The beast was so close I could hear it panting. White steam hissed from its mouth, evaporating in the freezing night air. My heart was banging, my mouth was dry, my legs started shaking. I stared into those blood-shot eyes. 'Still now, still! Don't show your fear, stand your ground!' Despite my terror my brain was still capable of rational thought. After what seemed like hours a desperate plan occurred to me. 'Uhh muhh shhh' stamp. 'Uhh muhh shhh' stamp. I started my Maori dance. I saw a flicker of fear in the panther's eyes, and then with a snarl he lowered his head and loped submissively off.

About the Author
'Write Now' are a group of authors from Essex. The Group was formed from members of a Creative Writing class, and they decided that some of the material produced was good enough to submit to the public. There is a strong link to the ever growing Frinton Literary Festival whose patron is the Poet Laureate. There is considerable talent on show here; the intent is to encourage people of all ages to enjoy books, and perhaps to try their hand at Creative Writing.
