About the Book

This is a story of love and determination that spans several generations. It begins in Italy and tells the story of a beautiful young girl, Iride, who reluctantly emigrates from her small home town, with her family, at the turn of the century, to make a new life in East Boston, Massachusetts where they settled. She meets and marries handsome Joe, who had come to the United States earlier under tragic circumstance. Together they start a new generation and their new life brings them several children, and through them new people come into the family who has fascinating and extraordinary stories to tell. From this union emerges Carole, a young woman who is having difficulty finding her place in her ever changing world. She yearns to find love, security and fulfillment. In her travels she visits Italy and is struck by its beauty and the life style of the people that live there. She then becomes curious as to why her grandparents ever left Italy. When she begins to ask questions about their lives she discovers that everyone has weaknesses and triumphs which lead her to a greater understanding of her life.
