I Am A SOLDIER
I sat down to talk to the soldier man,
I am truly amazed in his life in this sand.
I have a true passion for the things you chose to do,
That is one of the reasons I chose to help you.
The soldiers and his friends talk about the plan,
To bring some peace and love to this Iraq land.
They were told that it wouldn’t take as long,
But now they realize that the politicians were all wrong.
We were given the speech of how we liberated Kuwait,
But this Iraq land seems to present a no ending date.
We hear gossip and rumors about this very rich soil,
But we hope that we are not here fighting for this oil.
I’ve lost a few friends in this treacherous fight,
Unaware of the obstacles that they faced during the night.
We share a common bond and back each other,
Regardless of the creed or color, we are all blood brothers.
Sometimes I wonder if what we are doing is right,
Then I remember the bodies from the insurgent plight.
They don’t want any peace in this land you see,
They have no guilt about killing themselves or me.
So we adorn the uniform, the helmet and vest,
Then we proceed out the gate to our next great test.
We go down on our knees with our heads bowed and say,
Lord help us make it through just one more day.
