Safely back home, I decided that a remedial spot of surfing was called for but, after Dave, Mike, Hugh and James, would Dateandsee have any ‘ordinary men’ left? And yet, there was still Jonathan … but he was certainly out of bounds now, I concluded, probably regarding me as just another name in his extensive roll call of conquests. I did, though, fondly remember his ‘sweet nothings’ from just before the Christmas break … ‘the old Jonathan will be back you know …’. Yes, perhaps there was still some mileage in the old saying: ‘never say never’. For the moment, though, with a glass by my side and a contented Ringo on my lap, it was back to the drawing board or rather – back to the gallery of the Internet site ... It was not empty of interest.

Now, ladies, don’t be too dismissive of me. I’m only trying to show you that I have a sense of humour. Yes, I do love my sport but would never sacrifice a night out with you for a night in with Sky [unless of course it was the quarter final of the FA Cup or something equally important – another joke of course].
I like to think that I’m reasonably intelligent, good company, witty, and a good listener.

They might have sprung from the same soil but have flourished in very different ways.
