A Symphony of Snoring
It’s late in the evening and I’m off to bed,
I need to lay down my now heavy head.
I clean my teeth and change quite fast,
As usual into bed I am the last.
My dad is in the room next door,
My dog is curled up on the floor.
His little legs jump and run,
His doggy dreams they have begun.
I wrap the duvet round me tight,
And welcome the wonderful silence of night.
The peaceful bliss I welcome now,
As the days tension releases off my brow.
No sooner are my lids shut tight,
Than my ears awaken with a fright.
A deep, rumbling echoing roar,
Jumps up at me off the floor.
The dog asleep and not aware,
That he is sounding like a bear!
Snorting out and breathing in,
Lord help me sleep through this din.
I shout the dog awake once more,
He looks at me mournfully from off the floor.
I turn and lay my head back down,
Sleepy rhythms help me drown.
The peaceful bliss I welcome now,
As the day's tension releases off my brow.
From my sleepy waves I’m washed ashore,
For the old man has kicked off next door.
The walls they seems so paper thin,
Either that or he’s sucking them in.
An unearthly noise for one so quiet,
My God I’ve never heard such a riot!
And just when things are bad enough,
The mutt he starts to huff and puff.
One breathes out the other in,
A snorting, thunderous, rambling din!
The peaceful bliss I welcome now,
Is daylight beating on my brow.

About the Book
A short collection of poetry which reflects many of the experiences of the author from orphan through to a Major in the British Army. There are 4 sections to the book; Life, Death and In Between, War, Nature and Slightly Irreverent. The book captures the many travels of the author across the Globe and is an interesting, humorous, serious and emotional journey. The wide variety of poems is sure to appeal to all.
About the Author
Sonya Summersgill lived the first part of her life as an orphan, living inChildren's Homes in Northern Ireland. At the age of eight she was fostered and has remained with that family ever since. In 1990 she graduated from Dundee University and joined the British Army as an Officer. She has experienced many postings across the world from Iraq, to the Falklands, to Northern Ireland, to Turkey and to Bosnia. She retired from the Army in 2006 at the ripe old age of 38 and as a Major.
