About the Book

My son Michael D'Auria was a probationary firefighter killed on September 11.  There were so many stories to tell about Michael's short life and two special granddaughters who needed to get to know their Uncle Michael.  So one day I started writing, which then led me to interviewing with family and friends, and before I knew it I was adding pictures.  It was then I decided it needed to be read by many more than family.  It's a happy story, not another sad one about 9/11.  My son Michael was extremely loving and funny and I tried to capture who he was in this book, hopefully so that anyone who reads it will walk away feeling as if they knew him too.

About the Author

I'm a very proud mom of daughter Christina and fallen Firefighter Michael.  I have been blessed with two granddaughters, Vanessa Michael and Adrianna Rose, who are the ones who put the smile on my face each day.  I keep busy by reading, going to movies and dinner with friends and enjoy some traveling.  For the past three years I have been volunteering some of my time at the Tribute Center in New York City, at the World Trade Center site, where I take visitors who come to New York, on tours and talk about the WTC before 9/11, and the days following.  But my favorite part is that I get to tell these guests all about my son.  My life has changed dramatically since 9/11, but I am a positive person, as was my son and strive to make a better life for myself, even though there are days that are extremely difficult.
