When I Was Young When I was young I dreamed a dream. I held this dream near to me, dear to me. As the seconds passed, I watered this dream with the sweet water of each accomplishment. As the minutes passed, I checked my dream and planned my schemes and was careful to stick to my theme. When I was young, I dreamed a dream. I knew that life was more than what was here and now. And even as a young girl I knew I would succeed somehow. Verna Buchanan was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Born to a proud, hardworking father and a mother she holds in the highest regard. Her greatest treasure is her family; 5 sisters, 1 brother, a host of nephews and nieces and a daughter that has given her so much joy. While growing up, her family would ask her to make up poems and songs from titles they would give her.
