A woman raised to be a wealthy suburban housewife becomes emeshed in the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s, finds a career through church service and goes on to become instrumental in international affairs in different parts of the world. The Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell, past general secretary of the National Council of Churches, recounts what is in some ways her unique voyage through trouble spots in South Africa, Kosovo, Cuba and the Middle East, and in other ways the story of women's opportunities and women's choices in the turbulant 1960s and 1970s.
About the Author
A free-lance writer and journalist, Judy Lawrence has worked closely with the Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell for the past 9 years, covering the activities of the Department of Religion at the Chautauqua Institution for the Chautauquan Daily newspaper. She began the interviews that make up the bulk of this book in 2002.
Judy divides her time between Central Florida, the Florida Keys and Western New York. An avid traveler, when not on the road she can be found reading a book, writing, or enjoying her family and friends.
