About the Book
As Modest Moussorgsky composed “Pictures at an Exhibition ”
for the piano - describing musically the pictures that were being
viewed - so has the author written “Portraits in a Gallery ”. Many
visitors to a museum pass by the pictures on the wall rather hastily
without paying much attention to the details of the paintings or
to the lives of those who have sat for their portraits. The book
describes the lives of the subjects of some of these portraits,
people with everyday problems – just like you – displaying many
different emotions and behavior patterns, some with nerves of
steel and others with hearts of lions. Each had to contend with
life’s forces which were beyond their control.
